One of the biggest annual multisport events in the student-athlete calendar takes place on 18-20 February.
The BUCS Nationals are a collection of Individual Championships of five different sports including Indoor Athletics, Swimming, Fencing, Badminton and Climbing. The annual three day sporting event takes place in Sheffield this year and will be host to over 4,000 students as they compete to win a National Championship title.
We take a look at each of the five sports that will be featured over the three day event, as well as who is competing and when.

Athletics: Indoor Championships
Over 900 students will be competing in this year’s Indoor Athletics Championships in the hope of becoming National Champions.
96 different U.K. institutions will be represented in a variety of track and field events over the three day event, with students participating in rounds and heats on Saturday before Sunday’s day of finals.
Track events will include 60m, 60mH, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m and relays. Field events include High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Pole Vault and Shot Put.

Climbing
The BUCS Climbing Championships will feature over 500 climbers this year, coming from over 50 different U.K. universities. Students will compete in climbing sessions throughout the one day event to gain the best scores and make it to the evenings climb off finals.
The top 4 finishing males and top 4 females, will then battle it out in a climb off final (consisting of 4 problems, on the competition wall) to establish the winners of the individual male and individual female competitions.

Fencing
The biggest event of the fencing season will take place in Sheffield next weekend. The BUCS Individual Fencing Championships is a 3-day event covering all three weapons; Epee, Sabre and Foil. There will be 1 male and 1 female event per day with the Finals for each event taking place in the afternoon.

Swimming (Long Course)
Over 5,000 swimmers will be competing at the BUCS National Swimming Championships in Sheffield. The second event of the Speedo and BUCS Swimming Series will feature men’s and women’s events from all major disciplines including freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and more.

As well as individual medals awarded to the first 3 individuals/teams in each event, there will also be trophies awarded to the Top Overall Institution, Top Men’s and Women’s Teams, Top Male and Female Performance and the Top Male and Female para-swimming performances.

Badminton
Over 75 different U.K. universities will be taking part in this years Individual Badminton Championships. Over 650 Students will be representing their schools in a straight knockout format tournament, with the Finals scheduled for Sunday afternoon at approximately 2.30pm.
Notable entrants in this year’s tournament include Tokyo 2020 para badminton bronze medalist, Krsyten Coombs who will be representing the University of Hertfordshire, University of Nottingham Sport Scholar, Johnnie Torjussen and former English National doubles champion, Fee Teng Liew.
