The final of Euro 2022 cemented the rise of women’s football on one of the biggest stages of all at Wembley, with England ending a 56-year wait for silverware.

It all kicked off a month ago with the Lionesses defeating Austria in front of a sold-out Old Trafford. Following the tournament’s curtain raiser, 23 group matches followed at nine stadiums across the UK.

There were thrills and spills throughout, emphatic wins for the likes of France, Germany, Netherlands, and England, and big names like Norway and Denmark crashing out of the competition. Fans from all over the globe attended games, with thousands of fans gathering at all group games and knockout rounds.

On route to the final, records were broken in terms of scoring and viewership on TV. The quarter and semi-finals produced more thrills, ultimately leading to an England and Germany final. Cue a sellout crowd of over 87,000 at the home of English football. A staggering 17.4 million people watched the final on TV, smashing all records previously held in both attendance and viewership.

The Euros compounded the reach of women’s football across Europe and the world, inspiring the next generation of rising stars. The next generation will benefit from higher exposure and more funding after the heroics of the Lionesses and the success stories of the entire tournament.
