The highly anticipated Ravelin Sports Centre at the University of Portsmouth is now open to students!
On Saturday 3rd September, the latest state-of-the-art U.K. university sport facility opened its doors to students and staff. The facility that is located next to the University of Portsmouth Library will open to community members on 1st October.
The Ravelin Sports Centre provides students at the University of Portsmouth a fantastic space to train, compete and keep fit alongside their studies. The complex will be the host of many BUCS fixtures, where student-athletes at the University of Portsmouth will compete against visiting universities.
Construction began on the impressive 57 million pound complex in September 2019 and includes a wide range of facilities to suit athletes of all sporting backgrounds. The new facility will also benefit the wider student body, providing a great place for students to keep fit and socialise.
University of Portsmouth students will have access to:
- Eight-Lane 25m Swimming Pool
- Ski Simulator
- Climbing Wall and Bouldering
- An 8-Court Sports Hall
- 175 Station Fitness Suite
- Multipurpose Studios
- Teaching Space

As well as being home to the latest sporting equipment, the Ravelin Sports Centre is also one of the most sustainable sport facilities in the country.
The facility will reuse the water from the swimming pool for toilet flushing and generate energy from roof solar panels and internal heat recovery systems. The Ravelin Sport Complex also includes a biodverse roof that will be covered in grass and a selection of beehives.
