As the season progresses, institutions battle it out, aiming to accumulate the highest number of points and secure a coveted position in the BUCS rankings.

Individuals and teams that compete in BUCS competitions throughout the season can earn points for their University. Points are awarded for performances in leagues, cups, and tournaments.
These points feed into an overall table, creating a national sport ranking for higher education institutions in the UK.

Top Ten Universities 2022/23 BUCS Points
After over 25,000 fixtures and almost 130 sporting events, the 2022-23 BUCS season is officially over.
From the first whistle in September to the final buzzer in July, students from over 140 universities have represented their institutions across 52 different sports this year, showcasing the incredible range of talent and diversity within the UK university sport scene.
We take a look at the top ten performing universities in sport with the 2022/23 BUCS points leaderboard.

Loughborough’s BUCS Dominance Continues
With a record-breaking 9,311.5 points, Loughborough University once again finished top of the BUCS points leaderboard and have been crowned BUCS Overall Champions for the 42nd successive year.
As a testament to the university’s commitment to sporting excellence, the reigning champions earned the most points in 17 different sports including Athletics, Basketball, Football, Rugby Union, and Swimming during the 2022/23 season.
The University of Nottingham secured second place again with an impressive jump from 6,537.5 to 7,871.5 points, whilst third-placed Durham University were also able to significantly increase their points from 5,101 to 5,885.5.
The University of Exeter recorded over 1,000 more BUCS points than their total last year to climb into fourth position, overtaking the University of Edinburgh in fifth.
The University of Birmingham and the University of Bath improved their points totals to finish in 6th and 7th respectively, whilst Nottingham Trent University, University of Bristol, and Newcastle University complete the top ten performing institutions for the 2022/23 season.
This year’s notable increase in the points required to be in the top ten universities also indicates the growing intensity of the competition within BUCS and how every point matters during the season.
