Whilst the game originated in South America, futsal has become increasingly popular all over the U.K. and is offered extensively throughout U.K. university sport. Students will be able to find men’s and women’s futsal teams taking place on campus at the vast majority of universities across the country.
Whether you are looking to play at the highest level of U.K. University futsal or are interested in trying the sport for the first time, we are happy to guide you in finding a suitable opportunity. With the sport being played widely throughout BUCS, there are great opportunities for students to play futsal alongside their education.

Play futsal alongside your education
At some universities futsal will be played at a social level, though there are now many universities who consider it a serious sport and enter multiple teams into regular competitions, giving experienced student’s the chance to play at a high level whilst also offering opportunities for less experienced players to try out the sport for the first team.
At the highest level of U.K. university futsal, players may have the opportunity to compete in National Leagues and Competitions with associated clubs that compete outside of the U.K. university structure and some universities may also offer futsal specific scholarships with the goal of recruiting experienced players.

Students who are looking to compete at the very highest level of futsal alongside their education may have to choose to focus on this one sport, rather than also playing for the traditional 11 aside university club due to a potential clash in training times.
However, it is common to find U.K. university sports taking place on a Wednesday afternoon. With BUCS futsal games typically being played over the weekend, it would be possible for students to compete for both their traditional 11 aside university football team as well at the futsal team, providing the coaching staff are happy for them to do so!
