Your Recruitment Pathway

Follow these steps in order. You can move quickly if you’re prepared — or start from scratch and build toward coach contact.

Understand the UK University Sport System

Learn how teams compete, how squads are structured, and what “recruitment” means in a UK university context.

  • What is BUCS
  • How leagues and university sport programmes work
  • What level you can realistically target

Discover BUCS

From competition levels and team formats to how it fits into your recruitment and playing opportunities, learn everything you need to know about BUCS here.

Build Your Recruitment Profile

Your recruitment package brings together the key information coaches need to assess your ability and take the next step.

Video

60–90 seconds of your best clips first, then additional footage.

Sport CV

Positions/events, stats, results, rankings, awards, key dates.

Evidence

References, match reports, league info, verified results where possible.

Academic plan

Course interests, intended intake, grades, English language plan if needed.

No sporting evidence?

No problem! Whilst this information makes it easier for us to assess your chances to achieve a sport scholarship and play at a competitive level, it’s not a requirement to use our service.

If you do not have any sporting evidence, simply state this when registering on our website and a member of our team will follow up with you to learn about your ambitions.

Connect With Coaches

This stage is about making informed connections. Explore universities in detail, engage with coaches directly, and gain a clearer picture of the student-athlete experience being offered.

  • Engage with coaches to find out more about each sporting opportunity
  • Develop a realistic picture of training demands, competition level, and progression
  • Be ready for follow-up questions and clarify next steps in the recruitment and application process

Direct Coach Connections

Once we have built your recruitment profile, we will connect you directly with university coaches at programmes that align with your sporting ambitions.

Top Tip: Setting a great first impression can help to improve your chances of being offered a scholarship!

Secure Your Academic Route

Recruitment and enrolment work together: your academic eligibility must align with the intake and your sport plan.

  • Shortlist degrees that fit your goals and timetable
  • Understand entry requirements and documentation
  • Align deadlines with sport recruitment timelines

Application Support

We manage and submit your application on your behalf, guiding you through UCAS for undergraduate study and direct postgraduate applications to ensure everything is accurate and on time.

FAQs

Quick answers to the questions that our international student-athletes ask most often.

It helps a lot, but it’s not always required. If you don’t have a highlight video, match footage and verified results can still work — we’ll advise what’s best for your sport.

Use what you do have: results, rankings, coach references, competition context, and video evidence. The goal is to reduce uncertainty for the coach.

It depends on your sport, level, and intake timing. Athletes with strong evidence and a clear target list can move quickly — others benefit from building a profile over time.

Sport interest and academic admission are connected but separate. Coaches can support your recruitment, but you must also meet academic entry requirements and deadlines.

Support varies by university and sport (e.g., performance programmes, bursaries, scholarships). We’ll discuss what’s realistic for your profile and target institutions.
