What is a Summer Camp?

A US summer camp is a seasonal program designed for children and teenagers during their summer holiday from school.

Typically held in outdoor settings like forests or lakeside areas, Summer Camps provide a structured and supervised environment where participants engage in a variety of recreational, educational, and sporting activities.

Every year, US summer camps look to bring in staff from all over the world to help contribute to the unique experience that they offer their participants.

Camp Roles

With there being so many different types of US summer camps, there are a wide range of opportunities available each summer. From providing general support that assists with the day to day running of camps to coaching your favourite sport, there are roles to suit everyone!

Traditional US summer camps will see their participants enjoying a wide range of outdoor activities throughout their stay, whereas some camps will have specific themes that focus on a particular activity or sport. What to expect?

Here’s what you can expect if you attend one of our pre-approved US summer camps

Earn up to $2,000

Your camp will agree a salary with you prior to your departure.

You’ll have the summer of a lifetime and earn money while you’re stateside!

Room and board

Your meals and accommodation are provided on behalf of your camp throughout the duration of your stay.

Campers will typically experience living in a dormitory or a traditional Cabin!

Support

We’re here to help every step of the way!

We provide support and guidance during your J-1 visa application and have a 24 hour support line should you need to speak with us once you’re stateside!

Insurance

You will be provided with comprehensive medical insurance for the duration of your camp contract.

Travel

After you complete your camp contract, your visa allows you to travel for up to 30 days in the US before returning home.

Frequently Asked Questions

We’re always here to help with any questions throughout your application process, however below are some of our most frequently asked questions.

You must be 18 by June 1st, 2024 in order to attend a US Summer Camp.

If you are 17 years of age, you can still apply provided you turn 18 before June 1st, 2024.

Visa documentation is covered within your program fees so the only fee required for your Visa application is for the US embassy appointment itself.

This fee of $185 is paid directly to the US embassy when you book your appointment!

Salaries will vary based on your specific camp and role, however we guarantee all of our applicants a minimum salary of $2000 (before tax).

The payment process will also differ depending on the camp. Whilst some camps will facilitate the setup of an American bank account for their staff, others may opt for payment methods such as checks or cash. The frequency of payments is also contingent on your camp and may occur weekly, fortnightly, monthly, or as a lump sum at the conclusion of the summer.

Our network collaborates with numerous camps throughout the United States, spanning nearly every state, and extends into Canada, providing a wide array of potential opportunities for you to explore! Each camp we partner with presents its own distinctive and enriching experience, offering diverse roles tailored to meet their unique needs.

Your chance of placement depends on your individual strengths, skills, and the specific requirements of the camps in our network. For instance, if you excel in rock climbing and highlight this in your application, you may find yourself being considered for roles such as a climbing instructor. While we cannot guarantee placement at a specific camp of your choice, rest assured that our dedicated team is committed to matching you with a camp that aligns perfectly with your skills and preferences.

When it comes to selecting a location, we encourage you not to fixate too much on a particular city or state. Every camp, regardless of its geographical location, offers something distinctive and extraordinary. Ultimately, what makes camp unforgettable is the experience you gain during the summer, so remain open to the diverse opportunities available and trust our team to connect you with a camp where you’ll create lasting memories.

Every camp will have a slightly different daily schedule but what you can expect is for everyday to be completely jam packed with fun! A typical day could look something like this:

Morning
In the early morning, campers gather for flag raising at 8:00 AM. Breakfast follows, with options like pancakes and waffles. Afterward, they help tidy their cabins. From 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, campers engage in activities like archery, arts and crafts, or soccer.

Afternoon
Lunchtime is often around 12:00 PM, and a rest hour that follows gives campers the chance to relax and chat. From 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, more activities await—perhaps swimming in the lake or exploring the woods.

Evening
Dinner is at 6:00 PM and evening activities start at 7:00 PM, from talent shows to campfires. It’s lights out for campers at 9:00 PM, but counselors often stay up, planning post-camp adventures.
