Foundation Year

1 YEAR  |  PREPARING YOU FOR A BACHELORS DEGREE

What Is a Foundation Year?

A Foundation Year is an additional year of study taken before starting a full undergraduate degree.

Foundation Years are not course-specific and are designed to help students strengthen their academic skills and meet the entry requirements for a degree programme.

Once completed successfully, you can then progress directly into the first year of an undergraduate degree.

Ideal if you:

  • Didn’t meet the academic entry requirements for your chosen course
  • Completed a high school qualification that isn’t directly equivalent to UK A-levels
  • Want to improve your English language or study skills before starting a full degree

Foundation Degree

2 YEARS  |  A RECOGNISED QUALIFICATION

What Is a Foundation Degree?

A Foundation Degree is a standalone two-year qualification that combines academic study with practical learning.

It’s broadly equivalent to the first two years of a full bachelor’s degree and is often focused on preparing students for employment or further study.

Upon completion, students can transfer into the final year of a related undergraduate degree.

Ideal if you:

  • Are looking for a more hands-on, career-focused qualification
  • Want to gain a recognised qualification with the option to ‘top-up’ to a full degree later
  • Are exploring a more flexible route into university-level study
