As a sport with an international appeal, U.K. university handball clubs will typically boast players of all nationalities.
Handball clubs are present at universities throughout the U.K. and provide their players with regular opportunities to train and take part in competitive events.
U.K. university handball teams will typically hold several structured training sessions each week as well as offering several free play sessions throughout the academic year to allow newcomers the opportunity to experience the sport.
Some of the larger U.K. university handball clubs will have multiple teams where there players will range from newcomers to national team and former professional players.
At universities throughout the U.K. you will find multiple netball teams, allowing players of all ability levels, experience and levels of study the opportunity to compete.
Netball is a very popular sport in the U.K. with approximately 1.4 million participants taking part at some point over a typical season. This popularly extends throughout the U.K. university sport system where there are over 400 registered U.K. university netball teams.
Many U.K. universities will offer their student-athletes the opportunity to in further local and national netball league competitions. With the opportunity to compete several times a week, there are a wide range opportunities for student’s to continue playing their netball alongside their degree.

There are opportunities to join regional leagues to that hold games each weekend against local handball clubs, comprised of both students and senior players. In addition to the regional leagues, there are further university tournaments that are held several times per year.

U.K. University Handball Championship
Every U.K. university handball club has the opportunity to enter the National Student Championship which takes place each academic year.
The championship event is typically attended by around 75 handball clubs who compete over the three day event, at one of the country’s leading handball facilities.
There are several tiers of championships for both male and female handball teams, ensuring players and teams of all abilities have the opportunity to compete in one of the largest events in the U.K. handball calendar.

Sport Scholarships
Some U.K. universities are able to reward talented athletes with scholarships to support their involvement in their sport alongside their studies.
Each student will need to be considered for a scholarship on a case by case basis. If you have previously competed to a high standard and would like to explore the possibility of pursuing a scholarship in the U.K. we are happy to provide free guidance to help you assess your availability options in the U.K.
U.K. University Netball Scholarships
Some of the leading Netball universities in the U.K. will be able to offer their student’s some form of scholarship. U.K. university sport scholarships are awarded in different ways at each university, some scholarships may help to reduce tuition fees whereas others may help to provide a support package to cover the cost of specialist training and support. The standard required to achieve a netball scholarship will vary between universities.
