We highlight all you need to know about applying to a UK university through UCAS Extra in 2023.
On the 23rd of February, UCAS Extra opened to September 2023 University applicants. But what is it?
UCAS Extra is an opportunity for students who have not received any offers, or who have declined their offers, to apply for additional courses starting in the same academic year.
As well as providing students with a second chance to find a suitable course and university, UCAS Extra helps to fill any remaining places on courses that are not yet full.
We answer some frequently asked questions about UCAS Extra and look at how we can help students who are considering using the service.
Am I eligible to apply via UCAS Extra?
To be eligible for UCAS Extra, you must have applied through the UCAS application cycle and be registered with UCAS.
You must also have used all five choices on your original UCAS application and not received any offers.
How long is UCAS Extra open for?
UCAS Extra opens on 25th February 2023 and closes on 4th July 2023.
This gives students who have missed the main UCAS deadline a chance to secure a place at a UK university for the upcoming academic year.
How do I apply through UCAS Extra?
The process of applying through UCAS Extra is very simple, as students can use their existing UCAS application and personal statement, making it faster and easier to apply for a new course.
To apply through UCAS Extra, you’ll need to log in to your UCAS Track account and select the “Add a choice” option.
From there, you can search for courses that are participating in UCAS Extra and make a new application. You can only apply to one course at a time through UCAS Extra.
How do I accept/decline an offer?
If you receive an offer through UCAS Extra, you’ll have five working days to accept or decline it.
If you decline the offer, you will be unable to apply through UCAS Extra for the remainder of the academic year. If you accept the offer, you will be expected to take up your place there, unless you do not meet the conditions of the offer.
What else do I need to consider?
It’s important to keep in mind that not all universities and courses participate in UCAS Extra, and there may be limited places available. Additionally, some courses may have specific entry requirements, so be sure to check the course details before applying.
However, if you do not find any options through UCAS Extra, do not panic as you can still apply through Clearing which opens in July!
