Cyclists at U.K. universities have the opportunity to compete on the road, track, or off road with a variety of events for all abilities and disciplines.

The U.K. has a rich tradition of cycling excellence, winning more Olympic Gold, Silver and Bronze medals than any other nation. Some of the greatest names in U.K. cycling history such as Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton have competed in U.K. university cycling events during their student days before becoming full-time cyclists.

Cycling at university is open to students of all levels of experience. Clubs throughout the U.K. will regularly welcome new members and some may even have access to club bikes, allowing those who do not have their own bike the opportunity to get involved.

Compete in a variety of different cycling events

Each academic year students will have the opportunity to take part in a wide variety of competitive cycling and para-cycling (p) events, including:

  • Hill Climb Championship (p)
  • Track Cycling Championship (p)
  • 3-Up Team Time Trial
  • Downhill Mountain Biking Championship
  • 10-Mile Time Trial (p)
  • 25-Mile Time Trial (p)
  • Road Race Championship

In addition to the above U.K. university events, so many clubs may enter their riders or teams into additional regional or national cycling championships to give their students further competitive opportunities.

U.K. university sport scholarships are awarded in different ways at each university, some scholarships may help to reduce tuition fees whereas others may help to provide a support package to cover the cost of specialist training and support. The standard required to achieve a cycling scholarship will vary between universities.

We are happy to provide free guidance and support for any student who wishes to be evaluated for a potential UK university cycling scholarship.
